Phillip Schofield has expressed his heartbreak over the death of his mother, Pat, whom he described as “magnificent.” In an Instagram post, accompanied by photos of himself and his mother, Schofield wrote, “I love you mum, forever,” following a “heartbreaking weekend.”
He recounted spending three days holding, loving, hugging, and expressing his feelings to his mother. He described Pat, reportedly 88, as “calm, peaceful, beautiful, and dignified,” adding, “I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mum.”
The 62-year-old Schofield noted that his “magnificent” mother had joined his father, her “beloved Brian,” who passed away in 2008.
Schofield extended “eternal thanks” to the paramedics and the Treliske Hospital (Royal Cornwall Hospital) A&E and Critical Care teams, calling them “my mum’s and our angels” whose “love and care has been our saviour.” He concluded with, “I love you mum, forever,” alongside a heartbreak emoji.
In a separate post, he shared a video of a plane flying overhead, with the caption: “God I loved her for wanting to do this. One of the oldest ever ladies to wing walk.”
Schofield’s recent appearance in the Channel 5 programme Cast Away, where he spent 10 days alone on a small island off the coast of Madagascar, marked his return to television following his departure from ITV in May 2023. This followed his admission of an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger colleague.
He previously stated that admitting to the affair and the resulting public fallout had “lost everything” and caused a “catastrophic effect” on his well-being. An external review by Jane Mulcahy KC found that ITV had made considerable efforts to uncover the truth about the alleged relationship but were ultimately unable to do so before Schofield’s confession. Schofield declined to participate in the review due to health concerns.
